Integration of ICT in science
Integration
of ICT in science
“Technology will not replace great teacher,
but technology in the hands of great teachers can be transformational”
George
Couros
Education
is the process of conveying knowledge from one generation to another and education
will remain the same. No matter how often we reframe or try to change it.
Information technology (IT) is considered the key to globalization, and
computer-mediated communication is increasingly becoming an essential part of
everyday life.
Information
communication and technology (ICT) in education is considered an innovative and
interactive way of learning which allows the integration of technology into the
conventional education system.
Advances in information and communication
technologies (ICT) give countless opportunities to enhance education and
the way of learning. The application of ICT in science provides even
more opportunities due to the appealing possibilities for resembling, and
interactively exploring the experiments which might be sometimes difficult to
perform in small laboratories.
Why it is necessary to integrate ICT with
science?
ICT performs a very important role to achieve
the growing demand for globalization. Information communication technology
has a substantial impact on human activities in everyday life. If the goal of
science education is to promote socio-economic growth, the importance of ICT in
science education cannot be overstated. It is widely acknowledged that
development can only be significant if and when it is directed by science and
technology.
ICT involves both hardware and software which
allow to delivery of information in the form of audio, video, and presentation.
There is numerous software available that shows the important role in science,
which makes it possible to resembling of experiments, simulation, virtual
learning, data logging and generation and manipulation of database.
The role of ICT in science education
Instead of directly discussing the role of ICT
in science education we need to first understand which aspect of science
education ICT performs an important role. There are two aspects of science one
is the practical aspect of science which includes performing experiments in
labs, data analysis, and interpretation of results the second is the
theoretical aspect of science which involves critical thinking, hypothesizing,
simulating, and modelling. ICT helps more in the theoretical aspect of science
but it also shows a substantial role in the practical aspect of science.
ICT can serve as an essential component
of learning. We can use ICT activities in the research lab or
classroom. The best part is that it can faceable from anywhere students
continue them after class, and often at home also. This makes ICT an
integrated component of learning.
Application of ICT in science
It help the collect and organize the data
ICT makes it very easy to access, collect, and organize data. for example, if we want to explain about functions of different organs it is easy to collect the information by using a computer rather than referring to books in libraries.
Presentation of scientific data
It makes it possible to present the data in
form of a presentation and spreadsheet. The data represented in the form of a
presentation makes it more creative and easy to understand.
Virtual learning
Includes MOOC courses, eBooks, online
tutorials, video conferencing, e-learning platforms, and animated or creative
videos (which represent scientific experiments).
It concludes that over the last two decades,
there's been a growing demand for ICT not only in economics and business but
also in the area of education. The advancement of technology, in conjunction
with scientific advancement, contributes to a revolution in many fields,
including medicine, agriculture, education, information and technology, and
many others.
