Practical module-based learning and its importance in education

“All our knowledge is based upon experience. What we call inferential knowledge, in which we go from the less to the more general, or from the general to the particular, has experience as its basis”

Swami Vivekananda

The word "technology" has indeed an essential role in many fields, including education.  In the twenty-first century technology has become the primary means to deliver our knowledge. Nowadays, technology integration transformed our societies, completely by changing the way people think, work, and live.

The conjunction of information, communication, and technology (ICT) with education will help teachers to replace conventional teaching methods with technology-based teaching and interactive learning tools. Teachers are key players in ICT. The incorporation of technology in education contributes significantly to the pedagogical aspects, as the application of ICT provides effective learning with the assistance and encouragement of ICT components and elements. It is possible to integrate all major subjects with ICT. which allow learning more effectively with technology-based tool and equipment.

Practical education is considered an effective way to acquire knowledge and skills to manage things. Books teach you facts, but experience teaches you life lessons. In the case of practical learning, the trial and errors approach is the most effective

What is practical learning?

When we use the word education, we often consider it a formal education that can take place in schools and colleges. However, there is not only one form of education. There are several. Explicit knowledge helps us to understand things. in contrast the knowledge which gain through practice and experience is something we can't learn by reading books. it is called tacit knowledge, and it acquires through addressing real-life problems, tasks, and practice.

Practical learning is an approach to learning things through real-life understanding and tasks.

We can consider it a more practical way of learning. Take an example, if you want to learn how to ride a bicycle, swim, play cricket, cooking, or guitar. you can't learn these skills by reading the textbook or by sitting in a classroom. you can learn this thing only by doing it practically. Therefore, doing them practically will be a better option.

Theoretical knowledge is essential for students, it helps them to understand which thing is good for them or which thing is bad for them. Therefore, we can't say theoretical learning is not helpful but the integration of practical learning with academic knowledge is essential for preparing students for the digital era. Individuals develop and improve their skills, strengths, and knowledge through practical education to address practical problems in their professional and personal lives. Its goal is to improve problem-solving skills through a systematic approach.

Why there is a need to teach students through practical learning?

Theoretical learning may provide theoretical understanding and clarification about the topic, as it teaches reasoning, techniques, and knowledge theory. However, instead of just knowing it is always better to know how things get happens. in this manner, we can connect things in a better way.

Practical learning is quick and easy and it helps students to have a better understanding of the subject. It also encourages self-learning and promotes social values like cooperation, teamwork, and sharing.

Practical education assists students to get more understanding of the relationship between theory and practice. There can be no true practical education without theory. Practical learning teaches students how to manage things with basic knowledge. It also gives them skills and a practical mindset to analyse particular problems and find some practical solutions for them.

There are two main objectives of practical learning the first is the development of competency and the second is the improvement of skills and ability.

The different ways of practical learning

The impact of practical learning on students

The concept of practical learning is different compared to the conventional method of learning. In practical learning, students are assigned some task or group activity and they perform tasks themselves by observing them. It helps to gain hands-on experience in the learning module and to build up confidence.

It helps to Improve the way of learning:

Not every student is well enough to memorize everything. Therefore, practical learning helps the student to understand the concept much better rather than just

Help to retain information for a long time:

If we get assigned some task, experiment, or project we understand things better because we are doing it so it helps to retain information longer time as we learn through our experience.

Practice makes a man perfect:

We've seen this quote everywhere, but are we using it? Reading may help you remember things, but only for a short period. It is only possible with practice as you practice more the more you become perfect.

It helps to develop an interest in learning

what is more interesting? listening to lectures in the classroom or study visits. Where you can learn the same things but in a more interactive way which helps to understand the whole process in a much better way. It also helps to reduce classroom pressure.

Practical learning allows students to accomplish something that they have been studying their entire lives. It is essential for the development of skills and knowledge. Practical education improves the experience of learning by promoting teamwork, and confidence, and helps to develop long-term retention of information.
